Leewana Thomas

Organizing Director

Leewana has spent the last 12 years fighting for a better world, and she’s thrilled to use what she’s learned to lend a hand at TCE. She has a strong background in labor and community organizing that began in the Twin Cities during her college years, where she was fortunate enough to learn from Minnesotans for a Fair Economy, United Students Against Sweatshops, and Occupy Homes. The intersectional fight to end evictions and make banks pay up in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis showed her what deep community alliances and solidarity across boundaries can accomplish.

Throughout her career, Leewana has fought alongside workers at places like Walmart and Amazon, supported student organizing, and spearheaded progressive community and electoral initiatives. She believes in the principle of "bread and roses" - a holistic approach to social change, emphasizing the importance of both sustenance (bread) and beauty (roses!) in creating a better world for all.
