Jake Hernandez

Coastal Bend Field Organizer

Jake Hernandez, a born and raised resident of Corpus Christi, got his start in 2017 as a canvasser and phone banker for the Nueces County Democratic Party, and spent 3 years there organizing election workers and training other canvassers in his spare time. As the political climate shifted in 2020, he began looking for alternative ways to organize his community, and learned about Texas Campaign for the Environment, and the local effort to put a stop to desalination in the Coastal Bend. First starting out as a part time canvasser in the 2021 City Council election, he began working at TCE full-time in 2022 as a Field Organizer, working on our campaign to end desal. He’s fully committed to informing the public about the issues he feels like the city would rather keep them in the dark about, organizing his community to use their power to bring change, and putting an end to Corpus Christi’s history of environmental racism. In his off time, he enjoys streaming tabletop and trading card games with his friends and spending time in the nature that he fights to protect.
